Announcing Decentr’s Partnership with Spheroid Universe to Become the World’s First Metaverse Browser
We are incredibly proud to announce our partnership with a key player in the metaverse space, Spheroid Universe.
This partnership is great news for Decentr, our community and the future of the decentralized internet as we move towards becoming the world’s first (and only) decentralized metaverse browser, or ‘metabrowser’.
Decentr is working with Spheroid Universe and other organizations to set the open-source Standards & Protocols (S&Ps) that will be essential for the creation of a decentralized metaverse in the same way our browser and custom chain is standardizing Web3.
Spheroid Universe is a metaverse platform that superimposes a continuous layer of augmented reality onto the Earth’s surface. As a platform for entertainment, games, advertising, and business in the world of planet Earth’s AR, Spheroid Universe operates on Earth’s digital surface (Spaces) in the form of geo-localized private property.
This metaverse partnership is a sensible next step for both of us: as we continue to integrate our browser and blockchain as part of the ‘internet of blockchains’ Spheroid Universe is excited to work with us to build added functionality to create the foundational technology for the ‘metaverse of metaverses’ that we are jointly building. This partnership ensures we will continue to hit our roadmap milestones while taking advantage of the cross-promotional opportunities, support and experience of a fantastic team with wide experience and connections in the metaverse, Web3 and NFT space.
Our Web3 Solution: One Platform to Unite the Metaverse
The Decentr browser allows users to access and retrieve data across multiple partner chains. This means our browser and custom blockchain will do for Web3 and the metaverse what Netscape did for the Web. We are creating a foundational Web3 and metaverse solution that supports mass adoption of multiple integrated, standardized and scalable technologies (our definition of the Metaweb). This creates a seamless, decentralized, and user-centric experience for Web3 and 3D/AR to be used on mobile and desktop metaweb navigation.
Decentralization is critical: the decentralized metaverse is a brand new narrative in crypto, which we and Spheroid Universe believe will completely replace the current trend in centralized, disconnected metaverse platforms. The field is absolutely wide open to develop groundbreaking open-source technology. In conjunction with open-source Spheroid Universe, we are taking the lead in this exciting field by providing a truly decentralised basis for a single, cohesive, interoperable metaweb.
Decentr is uniquely poised to be a pioneer in the space, as our browser by default will allow users to securely store and transport their own user data with them across various metaverse spaces. This will allow Decentr users to opt-in to each space to determine which data and preferences they wish to share, thus creating a non-centralized, seamless user experience.
Decentr is working closely with our partners to create a cross-chain platform that will allow any metaverse space to communicate and exchange assets with one another, as well as establish the open-source tools, standards, and protocols that will be essential to power the decentralized metaweb moving forward.
Why Closed-Source Metaverses are really just Web2 Dressed up in 3D
The current narrative in crypto is about launching metaverse ‘universes’ that are completely disconnected from each other: this is the wrong direction. Integration and interoperability + public access is the only sustainable future for the metaverse in the same way we have proven in conjunction with our IBC Cosmos and other partners it is the only sustainable future for blockchain — a future we have delivered on. This means that without a decentralised foundation and ‘natively’ metaverse-aware browser, current metaverses are little more than Web2 dressed up in 3D. They all share the same constricting, centralized economies and business models, with questionable security, and are as a result ripe for centralized manipulation and exploitation…but this time with a seductive 3D veneer!
We aim to completely disrupt this narrative by working with, and facilitating the launching of open-source metaverse tools and platforms, where the metaweb will not be one isolated site, but will be an open, decentralised world with limitless land creation opportunities. The open-source 3D engine that is being created by our partners will be at the heart of the metaweb experience. By focusing on open source, the future of the metaweb will lie in the hands of the world-wide community, and not a for-profit black box owned and controlled by one single corporation.
Imagine an artist being able to link a 3D version of their gallery to their Web3 site, which could allow visitors to instantly switch from standard web browsing to 3D-browsing mode to view their art from any angle, or even view how it would look inside their own house. From there, they could then follow portals or links to other partner artists, or enter any metaverse address to be instantly transported to any attraction on the metaweb, such as a concert, lecture, an industry conference, or just a quick meetup with friends.
To achieve this, we are working with Spheroid Universe to define Standards & Practices (S&Ps) for the space as we create the technology to ensure separate metaverses interact in a single interoperable space, with our browser as access point. As such, you won’t log into Decentraland or Sandbox with separate software clients; rather, they will all have their own unique addresses in the decentralised metaweb, all of which can be accessed using the Decentr browser.
The Future of Gaming Lies in the Metaverse
According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella: ‘Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting category in entertainment across all platforms today and will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms’. We recognize that games will draw users back every day to reenter the metaweb and, as such, they will act as a portal to explore the social, interactive, and commercial 3D experiences that populate the metaweb. Indie gaming developers will be able to allow their games to occupy their own land in the metaweb, interacting with other metaweb lands to create dynamic, interwoven storylines crossing multiple worlds. Games will also be able to be embedded into an existing land to allow companies to create white-label branding experiences to drive traffic and increase user retention.
We will be working with our partners to develop and implement the standards needed for the creation of a decentralized metaweb as we recognize the immense importance of decentralized gaming on the metaweb. We plan to heavily support and feature those partners who are focused on creating the decentralized gaming tools, platforms, and marketplaces that will inevitably evolve from the open-source 3D engine at the heart of Decentr’s browser.
The Timing is Right
Decentr has grown from 10k to 50k+ users in just over three months, with an average 4.5 star rating on the Google Play Store. We are on an exponential track to overtake Brave’s 50 million users over the next two years, and will continue to work with our metaverse partners to define S&Ps for the industry while creating the interoperable framework for a single, cohesive Web3 and metaverse: the Metaweb.
The promise of the metaverse currently revolves around expensive, bulky VR equipment that only a small subset of the population will have access to for the foreseeable future. Even if every person had access to VR headsets, most would not be willing to carry them around and wear them on the bus, at work, etc. We therefore see the immediate, compelling and widespread need for a desktop and mobile browser that allows users to experience everything the metaweb has to offer, while supporting the development of open-source standards for the space.
In short, we see the future of Web3 and the metaverse as the integration of a single, seamless and decentralized space — the metaweb — with amazing potential to transform the way we not only view content on the web, but interact with one another across the world. Decentr’s browser not only stands to revolutionize the Web3 space, but also the future of the metaweb. We see an incredibly vast horizon ahead, with many metaverse projects already creating truly breathtaking content.
