We’re excited to announce that due to overwhelming demand from submitting artists we are extending our NFT art competition for a further month, until the 15th June. This will give greater opportunities to the art community while allowing us to profile more artists on our Medium. With that in mind, let’s reaffirm by way of example some important contest guidelines…
This submission for our international ‘NFTs for Good’ art contest was not accepted (and hence we won’t give the name of the artist) by our jurists; however, we thought we would include it in this Medium article for two reasons: 1) we think the characters, as regards their look and ‘disaffected’ expression and pose, would be great for an NFT collection; 2) to steer artists clear of a key pitfall of the contest entry rules: 100% AI generated art is not accepted.
We understand how useful generative art platforms such as DeepAI, Stablecog, ArtBreeder and dozens more can be for artists to work through their ideas, etc, but to the trained eye they are very obvious to spot as AI generated ‘fakes’.
In the same way a trained writer or tutor can spot a ChatGPT text at a glance, anyone familiar with fine art can spot AI generated art in the same way. It tends to have a waxy, uncanny valley sheen to it, the composition is mostly “off” (and wholly unusable for an NFT) while the ability to create consistent, unique trait layers is next to impossible.
We recommend sticking to creating your own work, whether traditional or digital, to avoid this pitfall.
